Guided Tour:

Travel with your docent to the 19th century from completion of ‘Iolani Palace in 1882 to the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy in 1893. Learn through story about the furnishings and Royal residents as you are led through the first floor state rooms and second floor private quarters. The tour ends in the basement, where you will be free to view the gallery exhibits on your own.

Reservations are highly recommended. Tours enter the Palace every 15 minutes. Please contact the ticket office to secure a tour time. Japanese language tours are given at 11:30am Monday-Saturday. Guided tours in Mandarin Chinese or American Sign Language can be pre-arranged.

Self-led/Audio Tour:

Gain access to the first and second floors of ‘Iolani Palace. Explore them on your own, at your own pace. A pre-recorded audio guide to these two floors, their furnishings, and the compelling history behind this National Historic Landmark provides context for what you see. Follow this with a visit to the basement gallery exhibits.

The pre-recorded audio recording is 45 minutes in length. It is available in three languages: English, Japanese, and Hawaiian. Tours enter the Palace every 10 minutes.

Basement Gallery Exhibits:

The basement gallery includes an exhibit of select treasures from the Royal collection, including the Hawaiian crown jewels, an exhibit about the restoration of 'Iolani Palace, and an exhibit of historic photographs. The restored Kitchen and Chamberlain's Office are also in the basement.
