The Palace is open from Monday through Saturday, with hours varying depending upon the type of tour you take. The Palace is closed on Sunday except for noted Kama'aina Sundays.  It is also closed on the following holidays: New Year's Day (January 1st), Indepedence Day (July 4th), Thanksgiving Day (November 25th), and Christmas Day (December 25th).

To see and learn the most about the Palace history, artifacts, and grounds, take a docent-led guided tour or an audio tour, both of which include a self-guided exploration of the Palace Galleries.

To see only the Palace Galleries, which display historic items including ancient regalia and the crown jewels, take a self-guided gallery tour.

The Palace also welcomes educators to bring students for a school tour for a unique perspective on the history, culture, and heritage of Hawai`i.

The Palace is open for tours Monday through Saturday. The Palace is normally closed on Sundays, with some exceptions (please see below).

`Iolani Palace is located in the Capitol District of downtown Honolulu at the corner of King and Richards Streets at 364 South King Street. When Visiting. . .

When visiting the Palace, please honor the dignity and security of the Palace and grounds by:

  • Dressing appropriately (no bathing costumes)
  • Observing and following instructions on markers and signage
  • Storing large bags in secure lockers available in the Barracks before entering the Palace
  • Enjoying the Palace without taking photos or taping (video and audio) inside the Palace and Galleries

On the guided and audio tours you will be asked to help protect the floors by donning Palace-supplied booties over your shoes, leave the modern world behind by turning off cell phones and pagers, take any notes with pencils instead of pens to avoid inadvertent marking of artifacts, and listen carefully to instructions regarding movement in the rooms and halls.

The Palace Shop

Visit The Palace Shop, located in the Barracks, for a wonderful shopping experience. The Shop features a large selection of books, videos, jewelry, and gift specialties relating to `Iolani Palace, Hawaiian monarchy, Hawaiian culture and history, and Hawaiiana. The Shop is open Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Friday Band Concerts

The Royal Hawaiian Band also presents free concerts every Friday outdoors on the grounds between 12:00 and 1:00 p.m. (weather permitting) Learn More »

Kama`aina Sundays

Once a month, usually on the first Sunday of the month, the Palace is open to kama'aina to tour free on a on a first-come, first-serve basis, with no reservations taken, except for groups of 10 or more. For more details see Kama`aina Sunday »
