Volunteers Promote and Preserve the Heritage
Volunteers Receive Instruction

The Friends of `Iolani Palace rely on outstanding volunteers for day-to-day operations. If you have a desire to learn, enjoy working with people, and have a few hours a week or a month to spare, we invite you to join our special family of volunteers.

`Iolani Palace holds a special place in the history of Hawai`i. As a volunteer, you will learn about the ali`i that graced its halls and the events that occurred in its stately rooms. You will be a wonderful part of helping to preserve this heritage for generations to come.

Volunteer Opportunities

Palace Greeter

During the days of the Hawaiian monarchy,`Iolani Palace was the social center of the Kingdom and the Royal Family was world reknown for its gracious hospitality. Guests were welcomed by the King and Queen with a true spirit of aloha. As official greeters of this grand historic house, you will extend that same hospitality and graciousness to our guests today. You will be stationed on the Palace Lanai to welcome visitors, check tickets, distribute booties, and present important House Rules.

Palace Guardians

Guardians provide assistance for both docents and touring visitors. This is a very important non-speaking position. As a guardian you will provide protection for Palace artifacts by guarding individual rooms and assisting docents as they move their group throughout the Palace.

Docent

Our docents interpret the history of 'Iolani Palace for thousands of visitors each year. Requirements include forty hours of Guardian service and completion of a Docent training course.
