Iolani Palace partners with Hear Hawaii for its monthly workshop on Saturday, June 11, from 12 – 1 p.m. and 2 – 3 p.m. in Iolani Palace’s Hale Koa (Barracks) Video Theatre. The workshop is free and open to the public.

In this workshop, participants will learn about Na Lani Eha, also known as the Royal Four, and the different styles of music, instruments and songs played and written by the alii. The class will study in depth the history of Aloha Oe, one of Hawaii’s most famous songs, and its historical significance to Hawaii’s people and Iolani Palace. Na Lani Eha was the name given to music created and sung by siblings King Kalakaua, Queen Liliuokalani, Princess Likelike and Prince Leleiohoku.

Spaces are limited to 20 people per group, and interested individuals are encouraged to register early.
