King Kalākaua Essay Contest

October 15 to November 11, 2024

ʻIolani Palace invites Hawaiʻi’s students to celebrate the legacy of King Kalākaua through the King Kalākaua Essay Contest, open from October 15 to November 11, 2024. This contest encourages students to explore the life and contributions of Hawaiʻi’s beloved monarch and how his legacy continues to shape our islands today.

Contest Details:

Categories:

  • Elementary School (Grades K-5): 150 words max
  • Middle School (Grades 6-8): 300 words max
  • High School (Grades 9-12): 500 words max

Submission Deadline: November 11, 2024

How to Submit: Email your essay to education@iolanipalace.org with your full name, school, and grade level. For students 13 and younger, a parent or guardian must submit the essay using their email.

Prizes:

Winners will be announced on King Kalākaua’s birthday, November 16, and will receive special prizes from ʻIolani Palace.

Judging Criteria:

Essays will be judged based on historical accuracy and creativity.

Help honor King Kalākaua’s legacy by reflecting on his impact and sharing your thoughts with future generations.
